LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE

  ©Vèrtex

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie is a visceral portrait of a woman imprisoned between memory and premonitions - like a giant torn to pieces by two wild horses pulling in opposite directions. The past and the future are just mirrored compartments that could break.

It's a performance about pain, loss, wanderlust, love, and family. Through reflections on personal issues channeling into the public sphere, the work creates narrative fragments as it looks for evocative images of beauty and emotional power.

It's not she in the world, but the world within her that is depicted. It's inside of her that all of the changes are happening. The stage becomes an installation and it's details become the sceneography.

Laura is collaborating with the Catalan composer Roger Marín. He is creating an original soundtrack for the performance.

Open Wound is part of a series of solo micro-actions works created by Laura Aris during her artist in residence period at HKAPA, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (2014)

Make the invisible visible
from the inside of a closed room, hidden from within
from the ugly, the most intimate
from the unspoken, the unshown

from what you may not want even had a name

OPEN WOUND / HERIDA ABIERTA

A-PART

A SOLO RESEARCH PROJECT

©Ka Lam

A-PART was part of the work series entitled The Anatomy of Broken Things. It was created during her artist residency in Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts 2013-14.

Under that framework, she directed several performances in different formats:
Two group shows with students of the Academy; Cualquier Mañana, a duet in collaboration with the Spanish dancer Álvaro Esteban; The solo Microaction Open Wound created for unusual spaces; and Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, a solo stage performance to premiere in April 2017.

It is easy to sit up and take notice, What is difficult is getting up and taking action
— Balzac

"The project starts with having time and space: The opportunity to spend hours alone and have a place to play, create without commitments, dates, or clear goals. It is an artistic luxury to embrace the danger of getting lost without getting anywhere this way.
A-PART is to be defined, but it may never need to be defined. I like that. It reassures me, generates freedom, and encourages me to imagine things. Ideas, material, costumes, images, everything comes out intuitively and without preconception, but it all begins with a strange clarity, with urgency, and from the subconscious. This is an intimate need to look inside, to release, to pull out, to vomit, to shout - to make visible the invisible.
The questions of gender, desire, identity, fragility, loneliness, social constructions of the couple, love, disaffection, yin and yang, all these elements form A - PART, one part of a whole already apart of everything.”

A-PART was presented at several venues in Hong Kong and at the festival Deltebre Dansa in Spain as a work-in-process during the year 2013. In fact never became a show.  It was the breeding ground for other projects.

I’ve never been anywhere near him. The important thing is the desire.
That which is visible only inside your eyelids and does not withstand the day light.
Clumsy words that do not even come close to what I mean.
Come, pass, choose…Choose who you want. Me, me or me?
I am able to take any shape.

A-PART

A SOLO RESEARCH PROJECT

Nunca he estado cerca de él.
Ven, pasa, elige. ¿elige a quien quieres?
¿A mi, a mi o a mi?
